  • Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the entire Metropolis team and myself, I would like to extend my best wishes for 2015 to you, your families, your collaborators and anyone dear to you.

I would also like to express my sincerest gratitude to you for your renewed support in my re-appointment as President of Metropolis; I pledge to continue pushing our network forward and to enhance its recognition on the international stage.

The decisions you reached during our Congress in Hyderabad last October concerning a new strengthened governance, a board of directors that is both renewed and experienced, a plan of action for 2015-2017, which shall comprise a strong element of political debate, and the creation of a network of young people enable us to tackle the major events on the international agenda with poise and consummate professionalism, i.e. the Millennium Development Goals, the Post-2015 Development Agenda, COP 21 and Habitat III.

We are ready for battle, ready to rise to the challenges and to put ourselves forward – in our capacity as metropolitan authorities and regional capitals – as front-line spokespeople in effecting the world’s future urban and social development.

Until then, I invite you to join me in Buenos Aires from 18 to 21 May 2015 for “Living the City” and to partake in a new more specific concept of meeting, which is not only more interactive but also rounds off the 30th anniversary of our association in a spirit of conviviality.

Wishing a wonderful festive season to all of you.

  • METROPOLIS’ regional secretaries as well as representatives of the association’s co-presidents will meet with the Secretariat General team in Barcelona on 9 and 10 February 2015.

  • Last friday, Michael Müller was elected as the successor of Klaus Wowereit. Mr. Müller is now the new Governing Mayor of Berlin until 2016 and Copresident at the METROPOLIS Board of Directors since october 2014.

METROPOLIS would like to congratulate Mr. Müller for his election as Governing Mayor of Berlin and is certain that he will serve the city with due diligence.

Mr. Müller was the mayor and senator of urban development and environment from 2011 to 2014.
