METROPOLIS joins local and regional authorities in Liverpool at the dawn of the Hyderabad Congress

United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) held its Executive Board on 17 to 19 June 2014 in Liverpool, at the invitation of the Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson, during the International Festival for Business organized in Liverpool during the months of June and July.

The meeting was part of the ongoing consultations on ‘localizing the post-2015 agenda’, which are being co-led by UNDP, UN-Habitat, and the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments for post-2015 and from which METROPOLIS is member.

Joe Anderson, Mayor of Liverpool, welcomed participants, saying that “Cities are engines of growth and they are critical to the global economic recovery. We want to debate the powers and responsibilities our cities need to deliver the best economic future for our communities.”

This meeting was the opportunity for the Secretary General and the International Relations Manager of METROPOLIS to meet with some member cities and to confirm their participation to the forthcoming METROPOLIS World Congress “Cities for all” to be held in Hyderabad on 7 to 10 October 2014, but also to foster the participation of other cities within the 300 participants to the UCLG Executive Bureau.
