Former METROPOLIS President Joan Clos re-elected as Executive Director of UN-Habitat

Following the recommendation of the Secretary-General, after consultation with Member States, the General Assembly re-elected Joan Clos as Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) for a term beginning on 18 October 2014 and ending on 31 December 2017.

Nominated by the Secretary-General, Mr. Clos was first elected to a four-year term in 2010. Before joining UN-Habitat, Mr. Clos was twice elected Mayor of Barcelona, Minister of Industry, Tourism and Trade of Spain, Spanish Ambassador to Turkey and Azerbaijan. Dr. Clos has previously served as President of METROPOLIS from 1997 to 2006. METROPOLIS warmly congratulates Mr. Clos for his reelection to carry out the mission he was entrusted with to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all.
