“Equality for women is progress for all”: Metropolis Women International Network joins UN Women’s theme for 2014

As the International Women’s Day celebrations approach, the Metropolis Women International Network gears up for its joint activities with UN Women.  As every year, a delegation of representatives of Metropolis Women will participate in the 58th Commission on Status of Women (CSW), which begins in a week from now (from the 10th to the 21st of March), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The meeting seeks to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and women's empowerment worldwide.

Set up in 1946, the CSW is the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated every year on March 8th. This year, IWD will be commemorated at UN headquarters on March 7th , on the eve of the 58th Session of the CSW. As part of the celebrations, the UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka released today a video with the main theme for 2014 – “Equality for women is progress for all”:
