Towards an evidence-based metropolitan governance: Launching the Metropolitan Observatory Platform

This event aims to gather researchers, non-governmental organisations, governmental institutions, business sectors and technical staff of the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador around the table to launch of the Metropolitan Observatory open data platform. This event will also highlight the importance of evidence-based governance and advances sustainable planning and management in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador.

About the Metropolitan Observatory

The Metropolitan Observatory was created in 2009. In 2015, the Metropolitan Observatory started measuring Prosperous and Sustainable Urban Development indicators proposed by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT). The adoption of the Prosperity Index allowed the Metropolitan Observatory to evolve from a crime monitoring observatory to an urban observatory.

The analyses from the Metropolitan Observatory have served as a basis for the formulation and updating of metropolitan policies, including the territorial economic development policy, as well as the instruments for territorial planning.
