Forum of African Metropolises

Political decision-makers of African metropolitan areas and city-regions will meet again in Ethekwini, during the UCLG World Congress, to share, among Africa’s greatest urban areas, common urban planning guidelines to cater to the needs of the continent’s population, which today is of 1.1 billion inhabitants and is expected to double by 2050. This Forum is chaired by the Premier of Gauteng Province and co-president of Metropolis, Mr David Makhura. The forum will be the occasion to present the first regional report of the Metropolis Observatory, is focused in Africa, furthering the research about the metropolitan indicators about Metropolis members in the region, and taking into account diverse cultural realities and situations, in order to provide a more accurate benchmarking.
