“Living Together/ Vivre ensemble” Summit in Montréal, on June 10 and 11, 2015

The tragic events that occurred in recent months in Paris, Brussels, Tunis, Ottawa, Saint-Jean, near Montréal, and Sydney, remind us that metropolises face important issues in terms of social inclusion, cohabitation, prevention and security.

Globalization, the evolution of communications, population mobility and the phenomenon of metropolisation force us to deal with new realities that have a direct impact on the way we manage our cities.

In this context, mayors of large cities have the responsibility to act now and reflect on our practices in a perspective of openness and vigilance.

This is why, mayor of Montréal, Mr. Denis Coderre, in cooperation with METROPOLIS, have invited a panel of mayors across the world to participate at the “Living Together/ Vivre ensemble” Summit, which will be held on June 10 and 11, 2015, in Montréal.

Invited mayors will discuss on challenges we face such as ghettoisation of some urban areas, social diversity, employment’s discrimination, common values

and security to strengthen our ability to live together in harmony. In short, the best ways to reinforce our ability as city dwellers to  live together in harmony: “cities are the best place to start dealing with these issues, and only by working together can we encourange best practices, both in terms of ‘openness’ i.e. various social inclusion measures, and in terms of ‘vigilance, or prevention and security” said Mr Coderre.
