At the end of 2013, the direct drinking water project for 300 primary and high schools in this city was completed, providing direct drinking water for students at school.
Healthy drinking water and water drinking health are important aspects of primary health work. According to the Report on the Investigation of Water Drinking Habits in Children in five Chinese cities nearly two thirds of primary and high school students failed to meet the standard of 1.200ml per day. Meanwhile, the main water supply model of more than 1.200 primary and high schools in this city was still boiled running water and barreled pure water, so the drinking water quality urgently needed to be improved. To ensure the safety and quality of drinking water for young students at school, the Municipal Education Commission put forward the direct drinking water project for primary and high schools. Water purification facilities and direct drinking taps were installed in teaching buildings, boarding schools’ dormitories, etc.
The model of combined self-examination at the district and country level and random check at the municipal level was adopted for inspection and acceptance of the building of the direct drinking water project. At the end of 2013, 349 schools completed the building of the direct drinking water project. A total of 2.146 direct drinking water facilities were installed and 250.000 students have been benefited.
