The strategic “Municipal Transport Service” entails implementing a municipal public transport service that is of high quality, inclusive, accessible, safe and efficient. It is characterised by modal integration with land and air transport systems, and a holistic vision of improving citizens’ quality of life in La Paz.
The Autonomous Municipal Government of La Paz has been implementing an ongoing policy of service provision to citizens in order to ensure that they have a better quality of life in both their social and living environments. This policy has been articulated through the Municipal Government’s medium and long-term Programmes and Plans. Both have defined the implementation of a new, more organised and better-regulated citywide Municipal Transport Service in La Paz city as a strategic project. The reason for doing so is that it is an inclusive, safe, accessible and efficient model that facilitates access to a modern Integrated Mass Transit System (IMTS). The aim of the IMTS is the implementation of a backbone served by a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, with approximately 40 feeder routes that will provide services to neighbourhoods that are far away from the city centre (approximately 45), and they will be directly linked to the backbone of the La Paz BRT IMTS.
