Taipei Free offers residents and visitors unlimited access to wireless low-cost and high- speed internet connection, while creating a fair environment for telecommunication industry.
To catch up with the global trend and in response to calls from the public, Taipei City Government launched Taipei Free WI-FI services across the city’s public places in 2011. Until now, 6.000 Access Point hotspots have been established at locations spanning major indoors and outdoors spaces, including 12 district administrative centers, Taipei City Hospital, Taipei Public Library, parking lots, sports centers, MRT stations, bus stations, civil services institutions, public and tourists markets, 50 theme parks, etc. The deployment of optical fiber network lays the foundation for the building of an intelligent city, industry development, as well as the promotion of a more convenient lifestyle for the citizenry. Taipei Free allows residents from Taipei and other municipalities, as well as international visitors, to enjoy the convenience brought by free, around-the-clock WI-FI internet connection. Until now, Taipei Free reports an access rate of at least 4 million visits per month. These developments will enhance the city’s competitiveness and pave the way for Taipei to become a city of the future.
