Five hundred local and regional leaders came together in Florence for the UCLG World Council
At the invitation of the Mayor of Florence, Matteo Renzi, the city of Florence played host to 500 local and regional leaders from over 40 different countries gathered in the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) World Council, held from 9 to 11 December.

The event, brought to a close on 26 November 2011 in Porto Alegre, presented various solutions for governance, urban planning, participatory democracy, innovation, the fight against climate change, sustainability, peri-urban agriculture and renewable energies, and set forth the new guidelines for Metropolis for the next three year
- Smart City Expo & World Congress concludes in Barcelona with the formation of a world association of smart citiesWednesday, 14/12/2011
The first Smart City Expo & World Congress has come to an end with the announcement of the creation of a global association of smart cities that will bring together cities and businesses. The aim is to promote initiatives in this new field and to create global standards for the effective implementation of smart criteria. The city of Barcelona will lead the establishment of this new association, which was conceived over the four days of the event that drew more than 50 cities and 118 businesses from around the world.
