Cities are coming up with groundbreaking new forms of governance, ways to fund projects and ideas on managing urban growth, as they continue to expand across administrative and political borders. Learn all about it in our networking event "Metropolises at Work: Governance, Finance, and the Execution of Public Policies" which will take place during the 6th WUF - World Urban Forum in Naples on 4 September (4:30-6:30 pm), Pavilion 6 – Room 5. This event is jointly organized by Metropolis, the State Secretariat for Metropolitan Development of São Paulo and EMPLASA within the framework of the Metropolis Initiative on Metropolitan Governance.

- Great success of participation in the seminar "Women in contemporary african society" organized by the city of AbidjanTuesday, 31/07/2012
The seminar "Women in contemporary african society", organized by Abidjan’s Antenna of the Metropolis Women International Network of Metropolis, was held in Abidjan (Ivory Coast), from 24th to 27th July 2012. 500 women representatives from local government around 21 countries in Africa have participated in this seminar and have had the opportunity to share their experiences to face new challenges in environment, governance, sustainability and innovation areas.

The 2012 Metropolis Board of Directors Meeting will be a special event: Guangzhou will emerge as a capital of innovation, offering an ideal platform to explore and discuss the most innovative approaches to rethinking cities in the 21st-century.Jointly organized by the city of Guangzhou and Metropolis, the event will also include the ceremony for the first edition of the Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation. This new award has sparked considerable interest to date and has already received 135 submissions from 80 cities around the world.

The Workshop City Protocol to promote a certification system for measuring the degree of efficiency and quality in cities was held on 16 and 17 July. The event brought together around 200 spokespersons and included the attendance of two Metropolis representatives who played an active role in the discussions to establish a new framework for city improvement and transformation.
Barcelona City Council is acting as the project sponsor, with the involvement of CISCO and GDF Suez and the collaboration of over 90 cities, organizations, universities, and businesses.
