This publication sets out some of the innovative technology and sustainability actions from Metropolis member cities, the Connected Urban Development partner cities and other progressive cities worldwide. These provide an insightful and inspiring benchmark of best practices towards Smart+Connected Communities. These signify the emergence of an urban services platform approach towards the role of technology in the sustainable development of cities.

By commission from the Metropolis Secretariat General, the Evolution of Institutions Observatory at Barcelona’s Pompeu Fabra University carried out a comparative study on the governance of large cities. The chosen cities were Barcelona, Buenos Aires, London, Montreal, Mexico City, Paris, Rio de Janeiro and Seoul.
