bilateral meeting with LKYCIC

Lee Kwan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities - LKYCIC

Belinda Yuen, Research Director, and Xin Yan, researcher

Based at Singapore University of Technology and Design, LKYCIC brings together experts from several Singaporean universities, and is well connected internationally. The two issues that we discussed most were their work on innovation in cities (Belinda Yuen is a good friend of Nick You, and participates in the selection of the Guangzhou Award) and their work on elderly-people friendly cities. They are rather research-oriented, but sometimes on the lookout for best practices, contacts with cities, and dissemination of research results. Although no clear collaboration project came out of the meeting, I do think there is space to engage them if and when needed if we need expertise on their many specific topics.

We mentioned the fact that their Chair, Prof. Cheong Koon Hean, has been invited to Brussels for a panel, but it did not seem like she was that closely linked to LKYCIC (she is also the Chair of the Centre for Livable Cities), so we most probably should follow up directly with her (Oscar has the contact, if I am not mistaken), rather than through either of the centres, if we want her to come.
